OPEN Tuesday thru Sunday

Where it all began...

Popey's has been a family favorite for generations beginning in the 1970's.  Suzanne "Tinka" Skilton and husband, Richard, opened Popey's in the mid 70's in what was once an old family garage.  Not living in town at the time and raising two young boys they would make the ride to Morris to work on what would come to be a destination for so many.  Their two sons would be so excited to be going to their grandfather's - "Popey", so when it came time to name the business it was just meant to be.  And so  "Popey's" it was!  As the years went on, the menu grew, the staff grew and even the building grew.  Popey's became a landmark in the small town of Morris, CT.

After 40 years, the Skilton's retired and long time employee, Kristen Worden, picked up right where the Skilton's left off.  Kristen, who grew up in Lakeside, began working for Tinka in 1999 as a summer job while attending Wamogo Regional High school and going on to attended Naugatuck Valley Community College for Restaurant and Hotel Management.

Kristen's great-grandfather was the owner of Worden's Dairy and Worden's Delicious Ice Cream.  The Dairy was located on Cherry Street in Waterbury CT in the 1940's. So you could say the ice cream business is in her blood!

The amazing staff along with Kristen, continues to serve the same great experience that has been provided for many generations.

Have you seen our giant cone!

Our giant ice cream cone was designed and created by Corey Worden of Beneath the Bark - Chainsaw Carvings.  Corey, who resides in Alabama with his family, grew up here in Lakeside Connecticut.  Our giant cone is approximately 10' tall carved of white pine. It was carved here at Popey's and took about 1 week to create.  Corey is an incredibly talented artist and you can check out his work on his facebook page, Beneath The Bark - Chainsaw Carvings.
